Service
From 2022, he serves on the Board of the Production and Operations Management Society as Vice President for
Education.
Between 2010 and 2016 he was on the Board of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI).
He is
Founding Member, Member of the Executive Board (since 2009) of the European Decision Sciences Institute and served as
its President in two terms.
In 2019, he received DSI’s highest level of award, the Dennis E.
Grawoig
Distinguished Service Award, for his service to the institute both in publicly recognized roles and behind the
scenes.
He is a Founding Member and past Associate Director of the Global Manufacturing Research Group.
He
served on the Executive Committee of the International Society for Inventory Research (1998-2006); between 2006 and 2014
he was Member of the Auditing Committee. Between 2017 and 2019, he was a co-opted member of the European Operations
Management Association’s Board.
Gyula was Program Chair, Track Chair, PhD Workshop Coordinator and member of the
Scientific Committee of numerous conferences, including – among others – the POMS International 2022 – Budapest
Conference, the 25th Conference of the European Operations Management Association (2018), the 47th Annual Meeting of the
Decision Sciences Institute (2017), the 2015 Conference of the Transatlantic Policy Consortium (TPC), the 44th Annual
Meeting of the Decision Sciences Institute (2013), the 2015 Conference of the International Public Management Network
(IPMN), and the 4th Annual Conference of the European Decision Sciences Institute (2013).
Dr. Vastag worked with a
number of organizations including the Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa), Carlson School of Management (University of
Minnesota), International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland, Global TransPark Authority of North
Carolina, Knorr-Bremse Hungary, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, North Carolina State University, International
Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (Austria), ESSEC-Mannheim Business School (Germany), OTP Bank, and the University
of St. Gallen (Switzerland).
In 2017-2019, he headed the “Servitization of Public Services” Ludovika Research Group
at the National University of Public Service.
He has served as external promotion reviewer for US and European
universities, jury member for award committees (most recently the European Public Sector Award – 2019) and has been on
various national and international scholarship and award committees.
He has been an invited speaker at Panels and
Faculty Development Workshops of DSI and POMS, at PhD courses (most recently, KATAJA 2022 at Aalto Business School – The
Finnish Doctoral Program in Business Studies).
